Getting Your Wood Barbecue Smoker Ready for Winter

As the temperature drops, have you decided to get your Wood Barbecue pellet smoker ready for winter? Are you winterizing your summer home (as well as your grill) and want to make sure that they’re both in the best condition possible when you return in the spring? During this time of year, sure, you can continue to do plenty of pellet grilling. But, this is also the time when plenty of folks pack it in for winter, too. Below are some basic tips to protect your grill during the winter months.

Clean Your Grill (Then Clean it Some More)
We really can’t overstate the importance of cleaning your grill as much as you can. Really, as a good rule of thumb, clean your grill and, if you feel like you’ve cleaned it enough, go back and clean it some more. If you’re going to be away from your grill for months, remember: any bit of food or grease, no matter how tiny, can attract the attention of bugs, mites, bacteria, and more – all of which while you’re far from it. Nothing wrong with getting in there with a wire brush, natural degreasers, and cleaners, and going to town on it.

Put it Under Cover
A pellet grill isn’t the kind of thing that can be left out in the winter to fend for itself. Anything you can do to get it under a cover for the winter would be best. A garage, a storage facility, a basement, etc. If you can’t do any of that, even a shed or awning is something.

By that same token, nothing wrong with wrapping it up as well. Covering it in a tarp you can trust is one further step you can take to protect your grill from that which would harm it.

Disconnect for the Winter
This may sound obvious, but you would be amazed at how many folks forget to do this: disconnect your grill from the power lines. There’s nothing wrong with repeating that so that you get it in your head: disconnect your grill from power. Today’s pellet grills are, for the most part, technologically advanced machines. As such, there are many electronics and other forms of cutting-edge tech inside them. Leaving them connected to power is a good way to inadvertently fry them when you aren’t around.

Wood Barbecue Pellets to Get the Most from Your Grill
Those are just some of the steps that you can take to get your grill ready for next spring, summer, and beyond. That said, just because we wrote this article, that doesn’t mean that you have to put your grill into storage just yet.  Indeed, this is the perfect time for grilling for your tailgate, for the family reunion, even for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and more.

To see all of the ways that our pellets can help to improve your grilling, you can check them out at our site or by going to The Home Depot site as well.

Best Wood Pellets According to Judges and Others

Are you looking for wood pellets that you can trust? Do you want the Best Wood Pellets according to the experts? That makes all the sense in the world. No one should have to endure subpar BBQ just to find the right grilling pellets for their needs. Here at Knotty Wood, we offer many different kinds of wood pellets that can pair perfectly with just about any meal. Recently, professionals have been using our grilling pellets in competition and doing remarkably well.

Congrats to Mad Mutts BBQ
Mad Mutts BBQ has used our grilling pellets for a long time. If you’re anywhere within the vicinity of OP, Kansas, you absolutely have to try their grilling (and when we say “in the vicinity” we mean “within one of several neighboring or nearby states.” It’s really that good).

Recently, they used our pellets in the Iola Rotary Club BBQ Competition. They finished 1st in ribs, 7th in pork, 9th in brisket, and 10th in chicken – all with our pellets. What does that mean? Well, for one thing, it means that no matter what you eat at Mad Mutts BBQ, you’re in for something delicious.

Proud to Support Taste D’s BBQ
“Taste D’s BBQ” is a BBQ competition team. That means that they go out and compete in BBQ competitions, making some of the best BBQ you’ll find anywhere. Earlier this year, they competed in the City of Fairfield (CA) “Blues, Brews, and BBQ Cook-Off” event.

Not only did they win “Grand Champion” of the whole thing, but they also won first place in chicken and third place in ribs. We’re honored that not only did they cook with our pellets, but they also posted a picture with two bags of our 100% Pure Almond Wood pellets behind their trophy.

More Than Just the Best Wood Pellets
Our wood pellets are, for the most part, what we offer. You can find folks just about all around the country (and beyond) using our wood pellets to make the kind of BBQ that they (and their guests) want to eat. That said, we offer more than just pellets – we have rub, too. Even that rub has been getting in on the competition-winning fun.

Case in point, just a few months ago, Knotty Rub took 5th place in the 2023 American Royal BBQ rub contest. This is a big deal for many reasons, not the least of which is that this is one of the most competitive rub contests anywhere. So, for us to take 5th there is a major, major honor.

Smoke the Competition (in a Contest or at Your Table)
You don’t have to be in a competition, on a “competitive grilling team,” or anything of that nature to enjoy our products. All you need is to want to have the right pellets or rub to pair with your BBQ. To see what we offer, head to our site or purchase our products from The Home Depot site.

Best Grilling Pellets for Competition, Company, and Anyone Else

Are you looking for the right Best Grilling Pellets to help you cook the kinds of meals that can help you rank highly in a contest? Or, alternatively, are you looking for the best BBQ pellets period? Here at Knotty Wood, we don’t believe that you should have to choose one or the other. We’ve added some new pellets to our roster, making them available to regular folks for the first time. That way, you can grill the kind of BBQ you want to, whether your judges are in a competition, your friends and family, or anyone else.

Competition Grade Pellets
For a while now, customers have been asking us some version of the question: “Hey, what’s the best blend of BBQ pellet flavor profiles?” We’ve offered many different kinds of pellets, each of which can fit many different kinds of grilling. But, folks wanted to know if there was a blend that fit as many as possible. That’s where our “Competition Blend Plummon Wood Barbecue Pellets” come in.

The Best of Our Pellets: Combined
They’ve been specifically designed to be a combination of our 100% Pure Almond and our 100% Plum Wood BBQ pellets. As such, they combine, in a very real way, the best attributes of both. So, they can cover as many different kinds of dishes as possible. You’ll get the mild, nutty flavor of the Almond as it meshes exactly with the sweetness of Plum. With that combination, you’ll find that this goes with everything. Not “most things” or “a strong majority of things” but, as we say, perfect for anything you grill.

Competition Blend
We know there are those of you out there who love grilling to the point where you want to do it competitively. You have a talent and a taste for it, you know how good you are, and you want to see where you stack up. These pellets are a way for you to do exactly that – they can be your ally in those competitions when you’re going to be judged against the rest. When you want to be a grill master, these pellets can be your teammate, helping you get there.

The Grillmaster of Your Family
That being said, it’s not like you need to be in a judged competition to be able to enjoy these pellets. Far from it. Indeed, you can be the “Grillmaster” of the tailgate, of the party, or just of dinner with these pellets. As these are designed for all pellet smokers, grills, and dishes, these can help you to make the dishes that you and your guests want.

Best Grilling Pellets for Those Who Want a Higher Level of Grilling
While we’re quite proud of the competition blend that we offer, it’s not like this is all that we offer. Indeed, many dishes are best served with our Plum pellets, the Almond ones, our rub, and more. To see all that we offer, check out our site.

More Than Just the Best BBQ Pellets on the Market: Knotty Rub

Have you been looking for something to take your pellet grilling to the next level? Do you want a deeper, richer flavor in your meat? Here at Knotty Wood, we’re proud to offer, according to reviews by our satisfied customers, some of the Best BBQ Pellets on the market today. That said, we offer more than just pellets. As of this writing, we currently have “Knotty Rub” in stock. There are plenty of reasons that it often sells out as quickly as we can make it.

Best Ingredients for Flavor
Brown sugar. That’s the first ingredient you’ll find on our Knotty Rub and there’s a reason for that: it’s the main ingredient. It’s far from the only one, but it’s the most prevalent. Real cane sugar and real cane syrup combine to give your BBQ a sweetness that you may not be able to find elsewhere.

However, this rub isn’t just about sweetness: it’s about balance. That’s why we’ve got plenty of smoked paprika, nutmeg, curry powder, granulated onion, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and more to balance out all of that sweetness to make this rub something that pairs perfectly with just about any BBQ.

From the Deer Camp to Your BBQ
Like many great ideas, this rub started in a deer camp. More than a decade and a half ago, our founder was BBQ-ing for some hunters who were, as you might imagine, quite hungry. That said, they wanted something different – they wanted a richer flavor for their BBQ. So, this recipe was more or less made on the spot.

Sure, we’ve tinkered with it some since, but this is more or less the same recipe that those hunters had all those years ago. So many people liked it, we knew not to mess with a good thing.

How to Apply Knotty Rub
Of the ways to apply dry rub, the most popular is to just apply it with your hands yourself.  Many folks find it efficient (as well as cleaner) to have one hand to apply the rub and the other to rub it thoroughly into the meat. (And we do mean thoroughly). To make things even easier on yourself (as well as to keep the entire situation more sanitary) get all of the seasoning you need in place before you start applying the rub.

Don’t be afraid to use your knuckles, either. You can use them to grind the rub down into meat that may be a bit thicker.

The Best BBQ Pellets for Your Grill
We’re quite proud of the rub that we offer but, again, it’s far from all that we offer. Indeed, at Knotty Wood pellets, we’ve got plenty of pellets to choose from. There’s a pellet here to fit exactly what it is that you’re grilling. Whether your food could best benefit from our almond, plum, or even our newer flavors, we can help you to grill (and later eat) in style.

You can purchase our products through our site or by going to the Home Depot site as well.
