Using Grilling Pellets to Make Cocktail Drinks (Yes, You Read that Right)

Do you want to use your pellet grill to make a holiday party, unlike any other holiday party? Have you been looking for more ways to incorporate your pellet grill into your cooking? You can use your pellet grill to make cocktail drinks. No, that’s not a misprint, nor is it an exaggeration. You can use your pellet grill to make some of the best, most refreshing, and most delicious holiday cocktails. Of course, whether it’s cocktails or shrimp tails, our grilling pellets always set the standard for pellet grilling.

Utilizing Your Pellet Grill for Making Drinks
No, when using your pellet grill for drink making, you do not put the drink inside the pellet grill. Instead, what you do is put some of the ingredients that go into the drink inside the pellet grill. That opens up, quite literally, an entirely new world of smoky flavors (among others) that you just can’t get through any other method. If you’re tired of the same old same old drinks, then this is a new way forward.

One of Our Favorite Cocktail Recipes
A beloved recipe of ours is for the “Smoked Blackberry Bourbon Spritz.” It has everything a holiday cocktail should: taste, refreshment, zing, and alcohol. First, preheat your smoker to 200 degrees. Then, take half a basket of blackberries and put them on your pellet grill in a saucepan for 20 minutes. During that time, combine the lime zest and sugar on a shallow plate. Then, run a lime wedge over the rim of any glasses you’re going to use and dip those in the mix on the shallow plate.

Bringing it Together
After twenty minutes on your pellet grill, the blackberries should be plenty smoked. Then, you can put them in a glass pitcher or, as many use now, a cocktail shaker. Once the blackberries are in there, put in mint leaves, lemon juice, and honey, for a sweet, sweet taste. For an even sweeter taste, put in the other half of the basket of blackberries. Sure, you can smoke more than half, but that might be a bit much. Once you’ve put all of that together, add in the bourbon. For the last touch, you can put in ice and just a little bit of ginger beer. That’s a holiday cocktail that elevates any party.

Grilling Pellets: Gifts that Give All Year Long
This is just one of the many cocktail recipes you can use a pellet smoker for. There are many others. Of course, cocktails are just one of the many, many things that can be improved through a pellet grill. Our pellets can improve any kind of pellet grill and dish, bar none. To see for yourself, you can buy our pellets through our site or through the Home Depot site.

Appetizer Barbecue Pellet Recipes to Start the Holiday Party Right

Do you want to make the best appetizers for your holiday party? Are you tired of, every year, putting out the same grocery store cheese plate, or that plate of just shrimp? Sure, those are fine, but if it’s been many years, you’re probably aching to switch it up. A pellet grill can, as you probably know, be used to cook practically anything. Below are some recipes that you can use our barbecue pellet/Knotty Rub for to make this holiday truly one of a kind.

The Importance of Holiday Appetizers

At a holiday party, people don’t always come on time. Some come very late, some come very early, some leave before the big dinner and some come right before the big dinner, too. If you’re entertaining, you want to be able to entertain when people arrive. That’s where the appetizers come in. When you have great appetizers, you have something you can offer to anyone regardless of when they show up. You’ll know you’ve offered great appetizers when either A., they disappear quickly, or you hear guests say “I ate so many appetizers I’m not ready for dinner.”

Healthy Appetizers with a Barbecue Pellet

So many of the traditional holiday appetizers are the furthest thing from healthy. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, (it is the holidays) but some may want to include a healthy appetizer option. This “smoked bacon-wrapped asparagus” happens to be delicious and easy on the diet. In addition to the bacon and asparagus, you’re going to want olive/avocado oil, apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. The key move: wrap three to four asparagus spears in one piece of raw bacon. After you’ve preheated your smoker to 180F for five to ten minutes, smoke the asparagus and bacon for ten minutes. Then, crank the heat to 350F and smoke for another 10.

A Trip to Almost Almond Heaven

Almonds can be a great appetizer in and of themselves. Of course, for the best almonds, you don’t just want to open up a canister and put it on your table. Instead, follow this recipe for smoking your almonds with olive oil and kosher salt. To get the best, most almond tastes imaginable, of course, you want to use our almond wood pellets, too. In fact, throw our Knotty Rub in the mix and you’ll have the kinds of almonds that your guests are going to be asking you for the recipe for a long time to come.

Appetizers and the Main Course

The above are just recipes for some appetizers, there are many others. Indeed, at our site, you’ll find plenty of recipes that are great for “finger foods” before the main dish. You can find plenty of great recipes for main dishes on our site, too. For the best results, you can buy our pellets through our site or through that of The Home Depot right here.

Tips for Your First Time Cooking With Almond Wood Pellets for the Holidays

Is it your first time entertaining at home for a big holiday party with your pellet grill and you want to get it right? Did someone recently give you a pellet grill and you aren’t sure where to start? No matter what grill you have or what you’re cooking, our almond wood pellets can elevate it. That said, there are some beginner tips for your first holiday that may not have come with the instruction manual. These can help you with the 2022 holidays as well as those for many years after.

Start at the Beginning

You’ve probably heard the old cliche “no one plans to fail, they just fail to plan.” Yes, that can happen with pellet grill cooking, too. It’s natural to be excited about cooking for the holidays, but just “drawing it up in the dirt” can lead to disaster. Instead, have a plan. Know what you’re going to cook and, equally important, how long it’s going to take for you to cook it. That way, you can start planning out days in advance, leaving as little as possible to chance on the big day (as you know something is going to go wrong/present obstacles on the big day).

Yes, Cook the Big Meal, But…

Most people, when cooking on a pellet grill for the first time (or even one of the first times) don’t always realize all of the many different things that can be cooked on a pellet grill. Many, when cooking for the holidays, use their oven and their pellet grill simultaneously. For example, you could be cooking your main course in the oven while taking care of all of the appetizers, sides, and even desserts on your pellet grill. That way, you can provide more and better food to more folks. Utilizing all of your resources is a great way to provide the best entertainment experience.

Tools for the Job
Pellet grill cooking is efficient all year long. However, in the winter, in the cold, when the temperatures have fallen, your pellet grill is going to need more pellets to be able to generate the heat you want. That’s not a failing of the pellet grill by any means; that’s just science. So, be sure to be stocked with as many pellets as you can. Depending on how cold it is, it can take up to 40 to 50% more pellets to cook something in wintry conditions than in summer ones.

Almond Wood Pellets All Year Long
The above tips will serve you very well during the holidays, of course. But, each of them will also be a great boon during a family dinner, tailgate, picnic, or any other time that you’re cooking for plenty of folks. No matter who you’re cooking for or what you’re cooking for them, our pellets can make it that much better. You can find them at our site or that of The Home Depot.

The Best BBQ Pellets Tips for Cooking on a Wintry Day

Are you concerned about what to do if you need to cook on your pellet grill and the temperature drops significantly? Do you have worries about pellets cooking in the snow? So many of us plan out the perfect cooking schedule for the holidays, only to find that the climate does its best to alter them. We’ve written before about doing what you can to protect your grill, come what may. These are some more tips from our BBQ pellets team to help you and your grill to be ready for a holiday regardless of what the weather report says.

Proper Storage for Best Results

In addition to taking care of your grill, of course, you want to take care of your pellets, too. If you’re like so many, it can be natural to just put your bag of pellets down on the cold concrete until you need them again. However, that might not be best for your pellets, as it can lead to any number of problems for them. To get the most out of your pellets when storing them, consider elevating them on a shelf or even just putting them on a couple of pieces of wood.

When to Clean

You know that you have to clean your grill, but, if you’re like many others, you aren’t sure exactly when to clean it. Regardless of the temperatures, you’re going to want to clean it around every twenty pounds of pellets or so are used. Not only does this make sure that you keep your grill clean, but it’s also easier to remember. You don’t get caught in that trap of “wait, how many bags of pellets did I use after I cleaned it last?” “Every twenty pounds of pellets and clean” is easy to remember.

To Protect, Cover, and Transfer

What do you want when you’re outside in the cold? Right: to stay warm. Your pellet grill wants the same, too. So, make sure to have a blanket on it outside. That will keep it from the elements, too. That said, don’t cover your grill too much. Do not use it somewhere within a confined space, inside your garage, or something. That can lead to any number of dangerous problems. Speaking of covering, cover your hands, too. You may be cold but the inside of the grill isn’t, so wear those heat-resistant clovers no matter what.

BBQ Pellets for Best Results

Those tips above can help you to keep your grill in better condition in the cold or any other time of year. To keep your grill operating at its best, use the best barbecue pellets. That’s where we come in. Here at Knotty Wood, you can find the kinds of pellets that make any dish that much better. You can find ours at our site or at The Home Depot’s site too.

Best BBQ Pellets Grilling Practices for Thanksgiving Cooking

Are you wondering how you’re going to get all of the cooking done on your pellet smoker on the “big day?” Whether you just started with your pellet smoker or you’re an expert who’s been cooking for many years, cooking for Thanksgiving can be a bit intimidating. So much food to cook for so many people – it’s easy to feel a bit overwhelmed. Below are some tips that can help to “ground” anyone for the best possible cook, be they a master or novice. Of course, one of the best tips is to use the best BBQ pellets – Knotty Wood pellets.

How Many Pellets for Pellet Cooking on Thanksgiving?

On the subject of pellets, it’s easy to get nervous thinking about “how many do I need?” A good rule of thumb to keep in mind is: “one pound per hour of cooking at regular temperatures.” However, the keyword in the last sentence is “regular.” In late November, depending on what you’re cooking, you may be cooking at some higher temperatures that are anything but “regular.” To that end, it’s better to have one too many pellets than one too few.

Slow and Steady Wins the Race on Your Temp Gauge

When you want everything to be perfect, it’s natural to get caught up in the details. So, when you see your pellet grill temperature go up or down by a few degrees, it’s normal to feel like “oh no, this cooking is not going well.” But! It’s normal. That’s simply how it works sometimes. The temperature you set is not a constant, but rather, an average. With all of the variables in place, your temperature is going to fluctuate a bit. Don’t let it stress you out and keep at it.

Clean and Covered

Some of the best ways to ensure a great Thanksgiving cooking experience can be handled long before Thanksgiving arrives. For starters, you can’t go wrong with having a cover for your pellet grill. That keeps the elements out (in this context, “elements” can mean anything from snow to rain, to water, to leaves, to animals, and so much else). By that same token, before your pellet grill gets called up for “the big game,” so to speak, make sure that it’s as clean as possible.

Best BBQ Pellets for the Best BBQ
The right BBQ pellets can make or break a Thanksgiving dish. Here at Knotty Wood, we make pellets that can go with just about anything that may go in your pellet smoker. Whether it’s the turkey, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the desserts, or anything else that you decide to cook for Thanksgiving, our pellets can add a unique flavor for an even more memorable Thanksgiving. To see what our pellets can do for you, you can go through our site or buy them at The Home Depot’s site, too.

Beyond Turkey: Smoking Stuffing on Your Wood Barbecue

Are you tired of eating the stuffing out of a box every Thanksgiving? Do you want stuffing that doesn’t taste like it was just microwaved a few minutes before you arrived? Instead of being a Thanksgiving guest, do you want to be a Thanksgiving hero? If so, we may have a suggestion for you: smoking your stuffing. It’s not a joke, it’s a delicious reality. With our wood barbecue pellets and a pellet smoker, you can make a stuffing that will make the other side dishes at Thanksgiving look like, well, just “stuff.”

Stuffing Best Practices

So many of us, when we cook turkey and stuffing for Thanksgiving, we put the stuffing inside the turkey. It seems optimal, a great way to add flavor while saving time and space. However, now with pellet smokers, you can take your stuffing to the next level. In fact, we strongly recommend that you don’t put the stuffing inside the turkey (even if the turkey is going to be cooked in your pellet smoker). Cooking the stuffing separately.

The Secret

However, just because we’re saying “cook the stuffing separately,” that doesn’t mean “cook it by itself.” Depending on your pellet smoker, you may be able to cook the turkey and the stuffing inside the smoker at the same time. That said, the big secret to cooking your stuffing in a pellet smoker is to put the stuffing in a cast iron skillet. This helps you get the best cook and the most flavor out of your stuffing.

Stuffing Made to Fit Your Family

“Stuffing,” as you’ve probably noticed if you’ve been to a few different Thanksgiving dinners, means different things to different people. Some folks like it as dry as possible, while others tend to make theirs with a bit more moisture, with different flavors, and so forth. How can you control whether it’s wet or dry? One way is through eggs. The eggs can make your stuffing have more moisture, whereas it can dry out easier without them. If you want to make your stuffing sweeter, then dicing an apple or a pineapple and putting it in there can help keep it moist as well as add sweetness.

Wood Barbecue for Any Holiday

Speaking of a “sweet” taste, you can get some of that from our cooking pellets. They can add a sweeter, nuttier flavor to any dish, whether it’s meats, fish, desserts, or even stuffing. In fact, you can cook more than just your turkey and your stuffing with a pellet grill: you can cook all of your dishes. To purchase our pellets, you can do so through our site or you can do so at The Home Depot site as well.

How to Use Almond Wood Pellets to Cook a Thanksgiving Turkey?

Are you cooking for Thanksgiving this year? Do you want to provide your guests with a cooked turkey unlike any they’ve had before? If so, a great way to do that is to cook your turkey on a pellet grill. That way, you can add a delicious smoked flavor to the turkey that everyone will love. For even more flavor, we strongly recommend that you use our almond wood pellets. There are some tips to keep in mind for the best Thanksgiving turkey pellet grill experience.

Best Time to Start Cooking: Before Thanksgiving

This time of year, everyone is so busy. The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest party nights of the year. That said, for the best results, maybe consider starting the cooking prep before that Thursday in November. How so? By making sure that your pellet grill is as clean as possible. (That means grates too.) You’re going to want to have plenty of pellets, too, especially if the weather is cold. “A few too many pellets” certainly beats “too few.”

Follow the Laws of Thaw

Should you go with a frozen turkey this year, you’re going to want to thaw it out in the fridge for a while, between three to four days before you begin cooking. Unsure how long to do so? A good rule of thumb: see how much it weighs, then thaw it in your fridge an extra day for every four pounds. Once you’re done with all that, it isn’t ready to cook yet. Rest it at room temperature for an hour or two before you begin seasoning it.

Injection or Brining

We know that there are some folks who swear by using brine and injecting their turkey. They want as much flavor as possible in their turkey, which is understandable. However, we recommend only doing one or the other; only bringing or only injecting. Why? Because you don’t want the turkey to be overpowered by too many flavors. Picking one or the other will make sure that you have a delicious turkey everyone will enjoy.
